2006 Apolobamba Expedition Climbing Route Photos Nevado Sunchuli - 5306m Route from camp at edge of Lake Kotani to summit: Scrambled ridge for 3/4 length of ridge, shifted left, scrambled up couloir to edge of glacier, traversed glacier north to two summits connected by dull 50m knife edge ridge. Scramble rating: Class 2-4 with abundance of large loose rock. Snow route rating: F Nevado Posnanski - 5450m Route from base of Cololo lateral moraine: Hiked from camp to moraine, ascended broad shallow couloir to edge of glacier, traversed to skyline ridge, ascended ridge to summit plaeau, crossed 50m flat plateau to short summit ridge. Scramble rating: Class 2. Snow route rating: PD Nevado Cavayani - 5700m Route from hill behind Sunchuli base camp: Hiked west up valley to terminal moraine, traversed to left (south) side of moraine, scrambled to perched lake and onward to edge of glacier, crossed upper plateau of glacier to couloir between Pts 5550 & 5600, climbed couloir to saddle, climbed to summit of Point 5600, descended slightly to saddle between Pt 5600 and Cavayani, climbed to summit of Cavayani. Nevado Sunchuli - 5306m

Route from camp at edge of Lake Kotani to summit:

Scrambled ridge for 3/4 length of ridge, shifted left, scrambled up couloir to edge of glacier, traversed glacier north to two summits connected by dull 50m knife edge ridge.

Scramble rating: Class 2-4 with abundance of large loose rock.

Snow route rating: F

Nevado Posnanski - 5450m

Route from base of Cololo lateral moraine:

Hiked from camp to moraine, ascended broad shallow couloir to edge of glacier, traversed to skyline ridge, ascended ridge to summit plaeau, crossed 50m flat plateau to short summit ridge.

Scramble rating: Class 2.

Snow route rating: PD

Nevado Cavayani - 5700m

Route from hill behind Sunchuli base camp:

Hiked west up valley to terminal moraine, traversed to left (south) side of moraine, scrambled to perched lake and onward to edge of glacier, crossed upper plateau of glacier to couloir between Pts 5550 & 5600, climbed couloir to saddle, climbed to summit of Point 5600, descended slightly to saddle between Pt 5600 and Cavayani, climbed to summit of Cavayani.

Scramble rating: Class 2.

Snow route rating: PD
